Ridley-Tree Cancer Center’s Nuclear Medicine department located at Cottage Hospital offers expertise in advanced imaging techniques including PET/CT and SPECT/CT. This technology is used to help diagnose and treat a variety of diseases, including cancer, heart disease and other specific conditions.
Nuclear medicine is a specialized area of radiology that uses very small amounts of a radioactive substance (radionuclide) to look at organ function and structure. The type of radioactive substance that will be used depends on the method of study and the body part being checked. There is little to no discomfort during these procedures.
Our Nuclear Medicine department is accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) (formerly ICANL), in recognition of the commitment to high quality patient care provided by our staff. This accreditation is comprehensive and includes general Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology, and Positron Emission Tomography (PET).

Nuclear Medicine recently completed the construction and installation of a digital PET/CT scanner, the first of its kind in Santa Barbara. This initiative was made possible thanks to the commitment of the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara, Ridley-Tree Cancer Center’s fundraising partner.
