Sansum Clinic’s Executive Team helps provide quality healthcare for the California Central Coast communities we serve by recruiting the best physicians and continuing to provide the most up-to-date facilities and advanced medical technologies to serve the healthcare needs of our patients. As a nonprofit organization we provide many vital community health services and resources and as one of the area’s largest employers, we recognize the value of our many employees and their role in providing excellent service and care.

Kurt N. Ransohoff, MD, FACP

President, Greater Central Coast

Dr. Ransohoff joined Sansum Clinic in 1992. Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Ransohoff earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine and a medical degree from UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California. He was Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine from 1989-1992, and Chief Resident and Clinical Instructor from 1988-1989.  Dr. Ransohoff was Chairman of our Internal Medicine Department from 1992-1994, and Assistant Medical Director from 1994-1997. He has been Medical Director since 1997, President since 1998, and CEO since 2002.

Chad Hine, MBA

Ambulatory CEO, Greater Central Coast

Mr. Hine is a highly analytical financial executive with in-depth experience in the healthcare industry. His exceptional evaluation and planning skills make him a respected and proven leader. Before joining Sansum Clinic, Mr. Hine was CFO at Quincy Medical Group in Illinois where he oversaw all aspects of financial performance and operations for the organization and led a substantial financial turnaround that improved profitability by more than 100 percent. Prior to that he was principal and co-owner of investment bank and consultancy CEO Strategic Solutions, LLC. Mr. Hine began his career with Bank of America where he was Assistant Vice President in charge of underwriting and approving credit facilities for middle market businesses. He earned a B.S. in Accounting and Finance from Purdue University and an M.B.A. with a focus in finance and entrepreneurship from USC, where he graduated with honors.

Alexander Bauer, EJD, MBA, CPA

Market Chief Financial Officer

Alex Bauer is a financial leader with an extensive background in the healthcare industry, bringing a history of building consensus for difficult changes in systems and finance processes. He finds driving a culture of accountability adds value to operating organizations. Alex has the expertise to support rapidly-changing care and reimbursement models, evolving business models and new care delivery systems. He was recognized by the Advisory Board for building a highly-effective analytics team and for his collaboration with physician leadership obtaining NCQA Medical Home Certification for five clinics.

Before joining Sansum Clinic, Alex was CFO and Business Development Administrator at Renown Health, Nevada’s only integrated, non-profit health system. He previously made the rounds in the Northern California Healthcare Market - financial manager of Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery Regional Services at Kaiser Permanente, Business Manager and Consultant of Ambulatory Care at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Associate Medical Office Controller at Kaiser Permanente, and Financial Analyst at Sutter Health.

Bauer received his Bachelor's in Finance and Accounting, Economics and Law from Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany, his Master of Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University, and his Executive Juris Doctor at Purdue Global Law School. He is a certified public accountant (active).

Lindsay Cortina

Market Vice President, Strategy

Lindsay Cortina joined the organization in 2007 within the Cancer Center’s Wellness Department connecting patients and their families with supportive and integrative programs to complement their clinical course of treatment and care. She then moved into a role within the Administration Department, heading Public Relations and Administrative Projects, including the strategic planning effort which culminated in the 2012 merger of the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara with Sansum Clinic. After the two organizations came together, Lindsay joined Sansum Clinic’s Corporate Administration where she worked alongside Executive Management to lead the development and execution of strategy at every level.  As a current member of the Executive Team, she manages cross-functional groups in order to plan and execute strategic improvement efforts that continually deliver on our mission of providing an excellent healthcare experience while keeping our patients as the top priority. Her current focus is spearheading the integration of Sansum Clinic into Sutter Health’s community market-based system, and the strategic plan guiding the organization to increase patient access and further elevate clinical excellence and expertise on the Central Coast. Cortina is a dynamic leader who is passionate about elevating healthcare through community-centric initiatives and empowering teams to excel in their delivery of care. 

Her educational background spans a wide variety of topics from her pre-med undergraduate studies at University of California Santa Barbara, to lean principles and project management. She is currently pursuing graduate education.

Matt Baumann, DBA, MBA

Market Vice President, Clinical Service Line

Baumann is a healthcare executive whose approach to problem solving and leadership is rooted in military planning and strategy.  Prior to his more recent work in healthcare, he spent seven years as an Infantry Leader in the United States Marine Corps (USMC). During this time, he led several infantry units and deployed to Afghanistan and South East Asia. Departing as a Captain of Marines, Baumann thrived in both front line and technical acquisitions roles. This technical and operational military experience shaped the thought processes and approach that drives his decision making today. Mr. Baumann received Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida (UCF). He graduated as a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from Florida International University in 2022, with research focused on leadership effectiveness and employee engagement.   

 

Karen Handy, MPH

Market Vice President, Clinical Service Line

Karen Handy is a graduate of Stanford University and received her Master’s in Public Health from UCLA. Prior to joining Sansum Clinic, she worked for more than 13 years with Sutter Health/Palo Alto Medical Foundation in several roles, most recently as director of operations in primary care and weight management. Karen has devoted much of her career to helping patients and communities improve their health and reduce their risk for disease, including writing a healthy lifestyle blog and articles for Sutter Health’s award-winning consumer health website. As an operations leader, Karen has been dedicated to improving the patient experience, with a focus on service and quality excellence as well as operational efficiency.

 

Marjorie Newman, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Marjorie P. Felcher Newman, MD, joined Sansum Clinic as Assistant Medical Director in 2000. Previously, Dr. Newman was Executive Director of New York University Health Center where she also practiced internal medicine. Dr. Newman earned her medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY, following completion of a bachelor of arts degree in biology at Barnard College/Columbia University where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, NY. She is board certified in internal medicine. Her academic appointments include Clinical Assistant Professor of medicine at New York University Medical Center and Clinical Instructor of medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Dan Weigel, SPHR, SHRM-SCP

Market Vice President, Human Resources

Dan is a results-oriented human resources leader with extensive experience building and engaging winning teams. His background includes working with diverse organizations, from startups to category leaders. Prior to joining Sansum Clinic, Dan was VP of People and Culture at Invoca, Inc., the Call Intelligence Company and Apeel Sciences. He has also held senior HR roles with national and international responsibility for Intouch Technologies, The Walking Company, Guitar Center, Circuit City, and the iconic Santa Barbara based brands Big Dog Sportswear and Jordano’s.

Focused on continuous improvement with a passion for recruiting talent, Dan brings sharp understanding of the dual focus needed to align strategic and employee need to enable business growth and profitability. Dan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration with emphasis in Labor Relations from San Diego State University. 

Dan can be found fishing, cycling or spending time with family and friends in his home in Ventura.
