Healthy Pregnancy Packet
Information regarding a healthy pregnancy and newborn care is at top of mind for expectant mothers. The Healthy Pregnancy Packet below is intended to guide patients through their pregnancy and into delivery. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your care team. There are several ways that you can reach us:
- Sign up for MyChart at mychart.sansumclinic.org to be able to message your providers for non-urgent needs and concerns. MyChart also provides access to appointment information, lab and test results and medication information.
- Our Advice Nurses are available for questions and concerns by calling (805) 681-8911, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
- If you have an emergent question or concern after hours, on the weekend or a holiday that cannot wait until the office reopens and feel you need to need to reach a provider, please call (805) 681-8911 and our answering service will connect you to the on-call physician.
- Sansum Clinic’s Urgent Care, located at 215 Pesetas Lane, Santa Barbara, is available for walk in appointments every day of the week from 8:00am to 7:00pm *hours vary on holidays
- If you are having a medical emergency please go to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital or dial 911.
- Please note that Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital and Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital do not provide obstetric care.
Classes
Your Healthy Pregnancy Seminar
Sansum Clinic offers an informative early pregnancy seminar to patients before the 20th week of pregnancy. Our OB nurse will provide education on the healthiest choices for you and your baby and what to do should any concerns arise. You will learn about resources for expecting parents and plenty of time will be allowed for your questions. For questions or to reserve a spot for the class please call (805) 681-8911.

Postpartum Care
While you are forever changed after becoming a mom, the early postpartum days can be overwhelming and physical and emotion concerns are common. Please do not hesitate to call our Advice Nurses at (805) 681-8911 to discuss your concerns. They can schedule you for a follow up appointment or connect you with another specialist, if needed.
Depression and Anxiety
It is very common that new mothers experience a shift in their emotions called the “baby blues” after delivery. Up to 20% of these women will develop more severe depression and/or anxiety. This may present as emotional highs and lows, frequent crying, insomnia, fatigue, guilt, intrusive thoughts and anxiety. It is important to call us at (805) 681-8911 if you have any postpartum depression or anxiety symptoms so that we can evaluate your feelings and help you feel better.
Breastfeeding Support
Sansum Clinic’s Breastfeeding Medicine & Lactation Consulting Program combines clinical expertise and personalized care to support mothers as they navigate breastfeeding. Fellowship-trained breast surgeon and international board certified lactation consultant, Katrina Mitchell, MD, IBCLC, PMH-C, provides one-on-one lactation consulting to help mothers at any stage of their baby’s development. Dr. Mitchell is also a certified perinatal mental health care provider and provides evaluation and treatment for prenatal and postpartum depression and anxiety.
